Tantalum Capabilities

KEMET Organic Capacitors (KO-CAP) boast a solid electrolytic design with a conductive polymer cathode, combining the advantages of high capacitance from aluminum electrolytic, low ESR from multilayer ceramics, and the space-efficiency of tantalum.

The HRA Polymer Electrolytic series maintains KO-CAP's performance benefits and adheres to conservative designs with electrical screening and failure rate options tailored for high-reliability applications. These HRA components undergo surge current testing and comply with MIL-PRF-55635 and MIL-PRF-32700 specifications.

KEMET is actively qualifying the T580 (single anode) and T581 (multi-anode) series, aligning with defense and aerospace requirements. This pursuit follows the approval of the MIL-PRF-32700 performance specification for tantalum polymer capacitors, enhancing KEMET's commitment to providing a QPL-aligned product range for critical applications.

F-Tech Advantage

KEMET’s optional F-Tech eliminates hidden defects in the tantalum dielectric. This unique manufacturing process minimizes oxygen and carbon content in the anode, provides a stronger mechanical connection between the anode and lead wire, and significantly enhances capacitor robustness. F-Tech is available on select KEMET tantalum capacitor families and can be combined with SBDS.

Simulated Breakdown Screening (SBDS)

Breakdown voltage (BDV) is the ultimate test of a capacitor’s robustness but is a destructive test. KEMET developed a patented Simulated Breakdown Screening (SBDS) to simulate the results of a breakdown screening. This nondestructive testing technique simulates the BDV of a capacitor without damage to its dielectric. This 100% population screening identifies hidden defects in the dielectric, providing the highest level of dielectric testing. SBDS is available on select KEMET tantalum capacitor families and can be combined with F-Tech.

Ceramic Capabilities

KEMET offers meticulous production of high-reliability ceramic capacitors guided by stringent manufacturing protocols. These capacitors provide peak performance through selective materials selection, conservative design principles, and rigorous inspection throughout all stages of production.

KEMET also manufactures the MIL-PRF-32535, MIL-PRF-55681, and MIL-PRF-123 products, meeting the highest military standards required in the industry today.
