Motor Control Solutions

STMicroelectronics Motor Control Solutions are a portfolio of products for low-voltage motor control applications. These products include monolithic driver ICs, power MOSFETs, IGBTs, gate drivers, power modules, and dedicated microcontrollers to address a broad range of applications. STMicroelectronics has boards and reference designs for Low Voltage Motors, which include < 100V all the way to High Voltage Motors 600V up to 1200V. Permanent Magnet synchronous motors and Brushless DC motors are replacing DC brush motors in more applications for advantages like higher efficiency, quieter operation, and better reliability. Despite the different structures, all three-phase permanent magnet motors (BLDC, PMSM) are driven by a pulse-width-modulated (PWM) three-phase bridge (three half-bridges) to supply the motor with variable frequency and amplitude of voltages and currents.

STEVAL-SPIN3204 Evaluation Board

STMicroelectronics STEVAL-SPIN3204 Evaluation Board is a three-phase brushless DC motor driver board. The board is based on the STSPIN32F0B 3-phase BLDC controller with triple half-bridge gate driver, single shunt resistor current sensing topology, and programmable overcurrent protection. The motor controller system-in-package includes an STM32F031C6 microcontroller ready to execute 6-step, field-oriented control (FOC). The microcontroller also has other advanced driving algorithms in the firmware, which can be downloaded onto the chip flash memory via the board USB port. The board is designed to help the user test and develop motor control designs for applications such as power tools, home appliances, fans, and pumps. The board is a flexible evaluation platform that toggles between an external sensor and sensorless position feedback data methods.
