With strict standards for safety-critical applications such as ADAS, airbag, EPS, ABS, TPMS (among others), automotive manufacturers rely heavily on the high-performance and stability of the electronic components used in these systems. 

Electric Vehicle - Driving/Comfort

When choosing a new vehicle, many consumers look not only at safety-related features, but also at the comfort and convenience the vehicle provides. TDK offers a wide array of products such as power magnetics, ferrite beads, chip varistors, and MLCCs. TDK Electric Vehicle Driving and Comfort products are designed with special materials and features for use in applications such as automatic heating and cooling, automatic seat and mirror adjustments, among others, designed to provide more comfort for riders.

Soft Termination

TDK Soft Termination is a type of MLCC in which a conductive resin layer is provided between the Cu and Ni plating layer. In the terminal electrode of a regular MLCC, the Cu underlayer is plated with Ni and Sn. The resin layer absorbs stress accompanying expansion or shrinkage of the solder joints due to thermal shock or flex stress on the board and prevents cracking of the capacitor element. TDK's soft termination capacitors not only improve vibration resistance and withstand tumbling shock, but even more so prevent bending and thermal cycling.

Electric Vehicle Solutions

The rise of electric vehicles brings with it the need for downsized components that remain robust and effective. TDK provides a wide variety of electronic components well-suited to meet demands of the harsh environments of automotive applications. TDK Flex Crack Countermeasure MLCCs (Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitor) products feature redundancies in design in order to avoid short circuit failures and improve the reliability of equipment. TDK offers multiple types of MLCCs for flex crack countermeasures including soft termination, MEGACAP, serial design, and open mode, each offering a different model and design to mitigate cracking caused by depaneling of PCBs, screw fastening, or shock from a vibration or drop.

Automotive Capacitors

TDK Automotive Capacitors are multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) that meet AEC-Q200 standards. TDK MLCCs are manufactured using tested and stable manufacturing processes, and parts are subjected to increased inspection to offer a high level of reliability. Products are available in general voltage up to 50V, mid-voltage up to 630V, and high temperature up to +150°C. They also come in SMD or leaded packages. TDK Automotive Capacitors can be used for crack mitigation solutions such as soft terminations and open-mode designs, automotive applications such as battery line smoothing, engine control units, and sensor modules.

CGA Automotive MLCCs

TDK CGA Automotive Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors (MLCCs) are AEC-Q200 compliant and feature a tested and stable manufacturing process with increased inspections. These capacitors are available in voltage ratings up to 3kVDC and up to a +150°C operating temperature. In addition, thinner ceramic dielectric layers and multilayer technology give these capacitors a large capacitance. The series is available in standard, flexible (soft), and conductive epoxy terminations. TDK CGA MLCCs are used in a variety of applications, including automotive powertrain systems and safety equipment, smart meters, power supplies, sensor modules, and higher reliability / safety applications.
